Using this philosophy as a guide in facility management will
keep you balanced and doing things in the right order. No one would argue that
your facility needs to be “pretty” and many times that is where the focus is
centered on. What if the roof leaks and ruins “pretty”? What if the HVAC works
great but the parking lots has big holes in it?
If you are not careful, others will determine your
priorities and you may become disorganized and ineffective. When a staff
member comes to you with a need for new carpet in the Youth area, but you know
the roof is in disrepair over that area, using this tool will help you stay
focused and help the staff member to understand when you have to wait on his
project.
When allocating large amounts of dollars for renovations,
try using this a s a guide. You can still have a list of projects in different
ministry areas that you have prioritize, but then filter them through this
priority in facility management and watch your dollars stretch even further by
not wasting valuable resources by doing things in the wrong order.
